Can I be seen the same day?
We do our best to offer same-day emergency dental appointments whenever possible. If you're experiencing severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or another dental emergency, call us as soon as possible and we'll make every effort to get you seen quickly.
Will I receive treatment during my emergency exam?
Whenever possible, yes. The purpose of your emergency dental exam is to identify the source of the problem and determine the best course of treatment. Depending on your diagnosis and the time available, we may be able to begin treatment the same day. If additional treatment is needed, we'll explain your options and help you decide on the next steps.
Do I need X-rays?
In many cases, yes. Digital X-rays help us see what's happening beneath the surface so we can accurately diagnose the cause of your pain or injury. Rather than guessing, we use advanced imaging and diagnostics to recommend the treatment that's most appropriate for your specific situation.
Can you help if I'm not already a patient?
Absolutely. We welcome new patients and understand that dental emergencies don't always happen during routine visits. Whether you've been to our office before or not, we're here to help you get out of pain and understand your treatment options.
Will insurance cover an emergency dental exam?
Coverage varies depending on your insurance plan. Our team will verify your benefits, explain any out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins, and answer any questions you have. We accept many dental insurance plans, including Medicaid for oral surgery procedures, and also offer flexible payment options through Cherry.
What if I need an extraction?
If an extraction is the best treatment, we'll explain why and answer any questions before moving forward. Because our practice includes both general dentistry and oral surgery under one roof, many extractions can be completed without referring you to another office.

What if I have swelling or an infection?
Swelling can be a sign of a dental infection and shouldn't be ignored. During your emergency exam, we'll determine the cause of the swelling and recommend the appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotics, drainage of the infection, or treatment of the affected tooth.

Can I drive myself home?
If your visit only includes an examination or treatment with local anesthesia, you'll typically be able to drive yourself home. However, if you receive IV sedation, you'll need a responsible adult to drive you home afterward.

How long does an emergency dental exam take?
Most emergency dental exams take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of your situation and whether treatment is performed during the same visit. We'll take the time to fully evaluate the problem, answer your questions, and explain your options before moving forward.
Should I go to the emergency room instead?
Most dental emergencies are best treated by a dentist because emergency rooms typically aren't equipped to provide definitive dental treatment. However, if you're experiencing difficulty breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, significant facial trauma, or swelling that's spreading rapidly, seek immediate medical attention or call 911. For severe toothaches, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, lost fillings or crowns, dental infections, and most other dental emergencies, contact our office as soon as possible so we can help.
What should I do while I'm waiting for my appointment?
If you're experiencing tooth pain, keep the area as clean as possible and avoid chewing on the affected side. If a tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown rather than the root and keep it moist while you contact our office immediately. If you're experiencing swelling, a cold compress may help reduce discomfort. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums, as it can damage the tissue.
If your symptoms worsen or you develop difficulty breathing, swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding, seek emergency medical care immediately.
